Love in action
Recently, Channel News Asia (CNA), a Singaporean news channel, aired a programme focused on how the virus impacted Asian countries. They invited me to tell listeners about the challenges of running a charity during COVID-19.
I emphasised that the virus took a serious toll on those we serve, because many of them became unemployed or underemployed. That made it impossible for them to secure daily necessities. Although all of our services and programmes were suspended, we invited our service users, by appointment, to receive relief packages and food boxes to ease their daily struggles.
On the day of shooting, Mrs.Chan came into our Mongkok Centre with her two children and told listeners about her plight. “Because my husband’s income isn’t stable, the weekly handouts from Christian Action helped a lot. They gave us milk powder, cash, rice, tissue paper, vegetables, bread and many other things.” To view the interview click here (Christian Action section begins at 18:25).
I thank God that many of the Government’s preventive restrictions are gradually being lifted. It is my hope that our 22 training and social service points will resume soon, so that we can help restore lives.
