A Double Rainbow Blessing!

In November 1997, shortly after Christian Action started serving in Qinghai, a beautiful baby girl was found on a road in Xining City East. Her name was Zhao Wenzhen (文珍). She was taken to our Children’s Home and given a great deal of love and care. After she had also received surgery for a hip problem, she grew into a happy, intelligent, strong-willed toddler.

In July 2001, this beautiful child gained the distinction of being the very first child to be adopted from our Xining Children’s Home! I flew to Xining to be with her when she was handed over to her new mother, Crystal, and it was so moving to see Crystal’s emotional response when she met her new daughter for the first time. Zhao Wenzhen received the name Meizi (the romanization of her nickname in the Home) Kershaw. Her new parents, Jeff and Crystal, live in Cleveland, Ohio, and Meizi now has two older siblings, Spencer and Bailey.

In June 2006, Madam Li, the government employed Director of Xining Children’s Home and I decided to visit some of the children who have been adopted by American families. I want to share a very precious experience with you about our visit to Ohio.

Because of a complication, we landed at the wrong airport and Jeff had to drive two-and-a-half hours to come and collect us and then drive home. The weather was terrible, with heavy rain, lightning and thunder. As I looked out at the overcast sky, there was suddenly a double rainbow clearer than any I had seen in my life! I said to Madam Li, `God is really pleased; He is blessing this occasion of seeing our first adopted child in her new home.’ We were all in the car, Madam Li, Lydia, CA staff, my husband Marlon, our son Danial, Jeff and I, driving along, in awe of this double rainbow.

We reached the Kershaw’s lovely home and there she was, the beautiful, smart little girl from Xining! The family had planned a big party to celebrate our coming, so their neighbours, and friends from church, had all been invited. Crystal showed me the cake she had prepared, and I was surprised to see that it had a rainbow on the top of it! I told Crystal about the double rainbow as we were driving, and that we had seen it as God’s blessing. Crystal then said, 'Guess what? For her party, Meizi chose a new dress in rainbow colours!' So again there were two rainbows, this time in the house!

Lastly, the joy of seeing Meizi so happy was intensified when a second girl from the Xining Children’s Home, Jamie Jingya Schmidt (靜婭 ), arrived. Her parents, David and Bonnie Schmidt, had driven cross country from Tennessee to be at the party! Jamie had been adopted by David and Bonnie just two months after Meizi. The two became inseparable. So there was yet another double blessing!

To me it was a confirmation of the double rainbow of God’s blessing on Christian Action caring for His little ones. Over the years, my staff and I have often faced struggles, but experiences like this are a gift from God. I left the USA knowing that His eyes are still on His children, wherever they are. Thank you for giving, sharing and praying with me for our children and Christian Action’s efforts to help them.

Blessings,

Siew Mei.
