Mooncakes for Change!
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of Hong Kong's most significant festivals, a time to reunite with family and participate in exciting festivities such as mooncakes and lighting lanterns. But for those who live below the poverty line they are increasingly unable to afford the holiday because prices have increased so drastically.
To help the Kowloon East's elderly and underprivileged from missing out on the traditional celebration, Christian Action organised two wonderful Mid-Autumn events and invited 240 Kowloon East citizens. Dubbed the "Mid-Autumn Festival blessing our neighbors,” the first event was held on 2 September, 2024, at our CAC headquarters and celebrated the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China's founding. Mr. Li Yong Zhan, Director of the Coordination Department at the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was our honored guest and gave an inspirational address. The highlight of the afternoon was the "happy gift giving," during which the District Officers from the Kwun Tong and Wong Tai Sin districts gave each participant a 5-kg bag of rice and a mooncake.
On 13 September, 2024, the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club generously sponsored the second mooncake sharing event at CAC. Approximately 100 elders from Wong Tai Sin attended and each received mini mooncakes, and basic necessities such as soda crackers, peanut oil, noodles, and instant oatmeal.
As much as we desire a swift solution to the expanding disparity in Hong Kong it is heartening to see that many corporations and district offices have stepped forward to donate.
Please give generously to help provide basic necessities to those in need. The Bible promises, “Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do. There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need." Deuteronomy 15:10-11 (NLT)
Join us to share with the needy! No need to wait for the next Mid-Autumn Festival, ACT NOW.
