Disinfecting Subdivided Homes
Earlier this year, Ah Ping worried that her husband would contract Covid-19 from his job at a high-risk construction site and infect their home. The Wongs live in a cubicle apartment, which is a tiny unit shared by two to three families. Each family sleeps in one bedroom and they use common spaces of the living room, kitchen and toilet with the other families. As a full-time mom taking care of her 6 and 3-year-old sons, Ah Ping feared her family and home were in danger of becoming Hong Kong’s next Covid-19 epicentre. She was so afraid for her family’s health in their cramped living conditions that she almost asked her husband to stop working at the construction site!
By God’s grace, Christian Action was able to help the Wongs by offering a free disinfectant spray service provided by Aloes Tree Ltd. My good friend and long-time CA supporter, KH Ng is the co-founder of Aloes Tree Ltd., which is a company that distributes photocatalyst technology antiviral products and conducts disinfectant spray services. KH and his co-founder, Mr. Richard Yin, partnered with CA in a campaign called Project Micah, and we aimed to provide free spray services to families in subdivided flats and cubicle apartments in Hong Kong. Our mandate comes from Micah 6:8 where it tells us:
“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
This news was like a gift from heaven and Ah Ping jumped at the opportunity to participate in Project Micah photocatalyst spray campaign. The Wongs were very receptive and grateful for the free spray service because it guaranteed protection from the coronavirus for the whole family and their shared flat.
Carol Lee, our Senior Manager of Social Services, shared with me that, “The spray service released their financial burdens and stress as the husband could continue working without worrying about the home being infected.”
The Wongs weren’t the only family to receive this blessing. Christian Action’s amazing team of social workers organised Aloes Tree to spray 17,800 sq. ft. of space. Over 100 low-income families, both local Chinese and Ethnic Minorities, benefitted from Aloes Tree services.
I thank God for His protection over the most vulnerable families under the pandemic. My team and I are grateful that we could walk with Him and participate in Project Micah.
