The Values that Motivate Us

In my 34 years of work and service in Christian Action, I have met many diligent and kind staff members who have whole-heartedly helped our beneficiaries and the community. Cathy is one of our faithful colleagues. Since 2000, she has devoted herself to Christian Action and the people we serve.

Recently, after 21 years of working in our ERB Vocational Training Department, Cathy reached retirement age. She provided administrative support by liaising with tutors and arranging different training classes.

After suffering a work injury before working for Christian Action, Cathy was a trainee in our computer class of our ERB vocational skills training programme. She enjoyed the course and friendly staff very much. That encouraged her to join our CA family after graduating. From a service user to our team member, Cathy knows the struggles our trainees face. That makes her an empathetic and effective worker.

I was touched by the following story. It demonstrates her abilities so well. She shared with us:

“One time, I called an ERB retrainee to inform her about her make-up examination arrangement. As she had previously failed in her examination, she told me she was very sad and felt useless. She planned to give up the make-up examination. I sensed that she was very depressed. I tried to encourage her by telling her that the pace of learning is different for everyone and she should give herself another chance. After talking for some time, she agreed to take the examination. Amazingly, she passed it! I know I can help people through my work. That’s why I love my job. I know that I can bring about positive changes to other people.”

I feel so blessed to have such a good team of colleagues who are willing to help and serve others in line with the mission of Christian Action. Though Cathy has reached retirement age, we welcome her to continue working for Christian Action and re-join us to assist in our ERB Vocational Training Department. I look forward to seeing her again.
