News Flash - Our Mong Kok Students Receive University Scholarships!

“I live in a subdivided apartment with my mother and younger sister. During the COVID outbreak my father was in China and could not send us any living allowance. My mother thought it was not right to seek welfare as long as she could work. Instead, she took on a cleaning job to support the family. At the height of the pandemic, my sister was sent home from the hostel for the severely mentally handicapped. My mother had no choice but to quit her job to take care of her. Thanks to CA, we received emergency relief and food packs. We are also thankful for the social worker’s visits. I wanted to study hard, gain good results, and be admitted to one of the top 3 universities in Hong Kong. I was so thrilled about my DSE exam result. Later, the Mong Kok Center offered me a job as a tutor in the After-School child-care programme, I think this is a wonderful chance to repay the kindness that I received, so now it is my turn to bless others.”

A True Christmas Carol

As I reflected on Charles Dickens' classic story ‘A Christmas Carol’, I was reminded that in spite of all of 2022’s COVID-19 related uncertainties and challenges, none of our donors, supporters and friends withdrew their generous support. I know that you have all acted out of love. Thank you!

I am also overwhelmed with thanks for all our staff and volunteers, many of whom risked their own health and life in order to get emergency COVID-19 food and relief packs to isolated refugees and others whom we serve. Their selfless acts provided invaluable supplies and helped buoy those whose spirits were flagging.

Magical Night Under the Stars in Support of Refugees

What an invigorating evening! I would like to shine a spotlight on our incredible Centre for Refugees staff and volunteers for the amazing Community Impact Night that they just hosted.

If you take a moment to look at the photos you’ll see the faces of our supporters and guests. And in the pictures that I appear in you’ll also see that my eyes are sparkling and my face is beaming. Everyone’s face was - that’s how much fun everyone was having!

Two Boys with Cerebral Palsy and Their Life Sustaining Brotherly Love for Each Other

Lin Xiaolong and Zhou Zhili had a tough start in life. They were both born with Cerebral Palsy and both ended up at Xining Children’s Home. Now aged 21 and 26 respectively, they are too old legally to stay at the Home and live in Xining Social Welfare Institute’s Bridge Home. But to me, every time I visit them and look at their faces, I still see the little faces when they were young, I see their zest for life, their beaming smiles, sparkling eyes and I see their immense brotherly love for one another.

During their formative years at Xining Children’s Home our Social Workers and Therapists would do everything possible to foster a social connection between Xiaolong and Zhili. They would do therapy together, special education and hang out together after sessions.
