A True Christmas Carol
As I reflected on Charles Dickens' classic story ‘A Christmas Carol’, I was reminded that in spite of all of 2022’s COVID-19 related uncertainties and challenges, none of our donors, supporters and friends withdrew their generous support. I know that you have all acted out of love. Thank you!
I am also overwhelmed with thanks for all our staff and volunteers, many of whom risked their own health and life in order to get emergency COVID-19 food and relief packs to isolated refugees and others whom we serve. Their selfless acts provided invaluable supplies and helped buoy those whose spirits were flagging.
There are many great events I want to share with you. One in particular, was seeing the public exam results of six students from our Mongkok Service Centre. During their preparation for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Exam they were confined to their cramped, shoebox-sized, subdivided apartments due to lockdown restrictions. Yet they persevered and as a result they all got into first tier Hong Kong universities! Their results prove that when we help underprivileged students, anything is possible. We are currently setting up a scholarship for 2023.
Our Season of Love fundraiser was also a great success. It involved the sale of handcrafted cookies, to benefit Hong Kong’s low-income children and orphans and children with disabilities in Qinghai.
Christmas is a time to celebrate God’s gift of his son, Jesus. My family and I would also like to thank you for your gifts to those whom Christian Action serves. Let us do even more in the year ahead!
Merry Christmas!
