Eight years ago, Anna, living in Xinhui, China, married A-Kai from Hong Kong. She was 41 and had wondered if she would ever experience the joy of having a family of her own. Children were probably out of the question, but a husband would be a companion for life... or so that happy couple both thought.

Swallow in the Nest

Zhi Rou came to Xining Children's home when she was just a little girl, but her stay there didn't last long. She was placed with a very loving foster family in Xining soon after her arrival. Her memory of being an orphan hasn't lasted long either, thanks to the fact that her foster family seemed to instinctively know how to communicate with a small child.

When a Home is not a Home

Almost five years ago, to the day, I gave you the good news that two year old Madison Liang Ying, one of the little girls from Xining Children's Home had been adopted. I saw her off in Guangzhou and got to meet the Silva family - her new forever familyRecently they decided to adopt a second child. They contacted a children's home close to Beijing.

So this post is about a child who was not in Xining Children’s Home. But it is also story which will encourage all of you who have so faithfully supported the work of Christian Action and our ministry to children in Qinghai.

Out with the Grass!

Medicinal herbs such as snow lotus, Chinese caterpillar fungus, deer antlers and fritillary bulbs are all special local products in Hainan on the Tibetan Plateau. But those specialities won't fill the stomachs of hungry children, the majority of whom suffered from neglect and malnutrition.

With budgetary constraints to consider, the newly appointed Director Zhou of Hainan Children's Home, was faced with that problem when the first 21 orphaned children were placed in the Home. The appointment of a visionary director like Zhou led to an unleashing of her passion to really care for the children - and to be creative with her limited resources!
