These are a few of my favourite things…
Working day after day in a Children's Home with disabled, orphaned children, and doing this in a remote location is probably not what the majority of people would enjoy doing. But according to Joyce, one of our Hong Kong Chinese social workers who served in Qinghai Province on the Tibetan Plateau, it was a very enjoyable job!
Joyce is no longer working in our Xining Children’s Home, but when we asked her what she loved most about being there she gushed:
"I got to know everything about the Home and children – everything just made me feel fantastic.I loved to work with the disabled children there. I always got so much encouragement from working with them. Even if I got only a slight smile or they just called my name, I would think, `Oh! They remember me!’ It just made me feel really happy.
"I think I had a really good relationship with the staff so I felt that they trusted me to do everything that I wanted to do to help them care for the children better. We had a really strong team of staff. Every week we would have a fellowship meeting, sharing the happiness, the sadness and sorrows. We prayed together, helped each other and gave each other support. It made me really love the working environment and I loved the kids."
Joyce sums it all up with, "It was a wonderful job!"
I'll share more about what Joyce achieved in Xining in next week's post.
