A Walking Testimony
Three months ago Kelvin Ho, aka 'Kelvin the Mobilizer', began serving as the physiotherapist and clinical supervisor of Xining Children's Rehabilitiation Centre in Qinghai. His experience as a volunteer helped to clarify his goals, so he wasted no time getting down to doing what he does best: mobilizing. Tong-Tong is a walking testimony to that!
Like most children with Downs Syndrome, Tong-Tong needed physiotherapy to help strengthen his weak muscles. He was still crawling at the age of three, so Kelvin trained Tong-Tong’s therapists, and also started using sports tape on Tong-Tong a month ago. This has proved to be very effective. Tong-Tong is now tottering along on his strengthened legs, obviously delighted with his new perspective on the world, and amusing everyone with his antics.
Kelvin says, "For a therapist, any improvement in a child is rewarding and encouraging. Seeing the progress of our little ones – even a tiny step forward, is encouragement that keeps us going! The staff in the home are hungry for more clinical knowledge and I sincerely want to share my skills with them so that more children can benefit in the future. I believe that our service to the needy will only be sustainable if we train the trainers. To be working in Qinghai, far away from home and family, requires courage and determination, but whenever I see the courage of the children I am deeply encouraged - they are truly brave survivors of life!
Kelvin's strategies are underpinned by a deep faith and reliance on God. He said, 'Apart from offering my very best for every little moment that I have with the children, I present their needs to God in prayer. I know that the Lord is here with all those who are doing His work."
Please remember to pray for Kelvin and the lives he is touching: staff and children alike!
