Inspiring confidence

The current world economy is creating many concerns, especially for unskilled workers as they face the threat of unemployment. At Christian Action we are training and equipping people with limited skills to re-enter the job market.  We want to give them the opportunity to earn higher salaries than they did before.

Some women who have stayed home for many years, perhaps to raise their children, have little confidence that they can find work, so we invited 20 women to a fun extra curricular activity. It was a workshop entitled ‘I Believe in True Beauty’.  The aim was to help them learn new make up techniques which would give them the confidence boost they needed to take the first bold steps in attending interviews that would be essential before they could enter or re-enter the job market. With the help of skilled make up artists, those 20 women learnt to enhance their natural beauty, which also gave them an inner confidence boost!

Mrs. Wong, like the other ladies in the group, is between 45 and 50 years old. She stayed home for twenty years to raise her two boys, who are now 17 and 22 years old. They no longer need her full attention, so she decided she was ready to return to the workplace. But with very little work experience, she felt as though her choices were severely limited - until she heard about Christian Action!

Mrs Wong decided to enroll in our catering industry course because she has an outgoing personality and enjoys interacting with people. After the beauty workshop she told us, “I found the catering course fun, practical and enriching. Now I also feel pretty, happy and very natural.”  Alain Yip sent his amazing team of women photographers to capture the moment!

Christian Action also provides referral services, so course graduates have an immediate avenue to start their job search.

We’ve done our best to give women like Mrs. Wong the tools they need to forge a better future, and we’ve done our best to bring them to new levels of confidence.  Now all they need to do is go out there and make the most of it. And I’m pretty sure they will!
