Tied-up legs spread the word
Over 700 people were at the starting block in Christian Action's recent four kilometer walk over the beautiful golf course at The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. They did it (or attempted to do it) to raise funds for the orphaned and disabled children of Qinghai. As an additional mark of their sympathy for these children, every one of those 700 wonderful people tried to do it with one leg tied to another person!
That three-legged walk helped participants experience a little of what it's like to be 'disabled' and to have to constantly depend on someone else. Here's what some of the category winners had to say:
I wrote a personal letter to each of the potential sponsors, and shared some stories about Qinghai. I have committed myself to live a lifestyle of sponsorship.
Sunny Wong, RISE Counseling Service - Winner of most funds raised by a company.
I visited Xining Children’s Home and met a lot of great kids there. I think that children with disabilities should have more exposure in China.
Joyce & Jessica Lui and their parents - Winners of most funds raised by a family
It was quite a surprise to find I was a winner! I just posted my request on ‘Facebook’ asking my friends to support me. Raising funds for disabled orphans is very meaningful!
Billy Kwan, who `walked’ with his girl friend! - Winner of most funds raised by an individual.
This is a good cause, especially talking about children, and if we can help spread the word, then more people can hear about it!
Susanna Liew, CEO PrimeCredit, Second runner up of most funds raised by a company.
Many participants had never heard of Christian Action before they entered the walkathon but now they're really spreading the word! This event was a lot of fun with a serious purpose, so how about spreading the word and planning a 'disabled' walkathon in your part of the world to help provide a better life for the children who can't help themselves?
