Two dreams come true
Xiao Ji and Xiao Jia are two Tibetan girls whose lives have followed a very similar path, as a result of which they share a strong bond.
Their extended families were unable to care for them, so they were placed in Huangnan Children’s Home. Despite this heartbreaking beginning, the Home became the place where their dreams were birthed. I’m excited to say that we helped to make those dreams come true.
Xiao Ji and Xiao Jia are similar in age and personality, so they supported each other in addition to taking on the role of big sister, as they helped to care for the younger children. It was in this role that both girls realized they loved working with children. They both decided that they wanted to turn their passion into their career, and become teachers.
After they received vocational training scholarships from Christian Action, Xiao Ji and Xiao Jia went to study Early Childhood Education at Xining Vocational and Technical School. Their situation is unique, because they can complete their internships in their own home – Huangnan Children’s Home!
Their weekdays are spent tutoring the children and helping with administration. As a result, they gain valuable practical experience which will equip them well for the future. They’re providing additional evening tutorials, hoping to give the children the edge needed to excel at school.
Their strong friendship served them well during the early weeks of their internship, as neither Xiao Ji nor Xiao Jia knew how to manage the active bunch of children in their care. However, applying what they’d learnt at school, and leaning on each other for support, they soon overcame their difficulties.
"Without this education grant, we wouldn’t be able to study, and our dream of being teachers would never become a reality," they told us with smiles. Xiao Ji and Xiao Jia want to extend their thanks to our donors, who’ve helped them make their dreams come true.
