Come Walk with Angie!
Angie Cheong took her first steps towards becoming famous when she won the Miss Chinese Malaysia competition in 1992. The following year she came to Hong Kong to compete in the Miss Chinese Asia pageant, and ended up signing a contract with a local television station to become an actress. Over the years she has influenced many lives through her acting roles, but she never dreamed that her own life would be deeply influenced by one little boy.
Little Hanson was born with a heart condition that deprived him of 70% of his oxygen. Angie met him when she was volunteering at the Ping An Children’s Home in Beijing. The two-year-old was a heart stealer, and Angie realized her heart was gone when she took him out for ice cream one afternoon, and he called her 'mama'. She decided then and there that she was going to adopt him. She wanted to really become his mama. For the last nine years they have been inseparable.
Angie's passion for orphan care has not waned. She recently visited us at Christian Action and asked if she could travel to Qinghai later this year to learn more about our work. She told me, "Hanson is fortunate, he has a family now. But there are many children who still need love and care."
She is so passionate about the health and well being of orphans that she and her son will be attending our ‘3 Legged Walkathon’ on Saturday, March 21st. We've invited her to be one of our guests of honour, so if you come along and participate, you may just meet her along the route!
This will be the fourth year for the popular '3 Legged Walkathon'. Once again, it will be in one of the most beautiful settings in all Hong Kong, thanks to the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. Apart from a 4km walk surrounded by green grass, blue sea and rolling hills, there will also be a carnival and some fun activities after the main event. This year, for the first time, there will be an additional hike on the adjacent Tung Lung Island, after the main event.
