Capturing Success
This year we are celebrating our 30th birthday! Thirty years of gladly serving the most vulnerable people in society. The way many of those lives have changed as a result of the service we have given them has been captured by Ricky Lo, an internationally acclaimed photographer.
Ricky himself has overcome a considerable number of challenges. Like many Hong Kong high school graduates, he was unable to secure a place at university and was forced to register for an associate degree instead. Hard work, his talent for photography, and his passion to succeed placed him in the position he enjoys today.
Another determined photographer is Abby, who joined our Child Development Fund programme and used her savings to develop her photography skills. She won an award for excellence in a National Geographic contest, and is now studying social sciences at PolyU. Once she graduates she will be a bachelor degree holder!
Parwati, a 39-year-old Indonesian, came to us when she was diagnosed with cancer and needed help. With our help, she not only survived cancer, she has worked in Hong Kong as a domestic helper for the last 12 years.
Lai-Ping came to Hong Kong from mainland China to care for her terminally ill husband. We supported her during his illness, and continue to do so now that she is raising her four- year-old daughter on her own.
Ricky has also helped us to capture the stories of Snowy Choi, Rita Lai, Yu Ka Ho, and local band ‘Dear Jane’. All are now public figures in Hong Kong who overcame considerable obstacles on their journey to success.
If you have any doubt about your own ability to overcome your obstacles, then this photo exhibition will inspire you to keep reaching for your own success!
