A Dream Come True!

The longing for a child to succeed in life is the dream of most parents, whatever their nationality or culture. Xiao Qi's parents were no different. They were determined that their daughter would not work in the fields as they had done. But escape from the remote mountainous region of Qinghai to a better life demands perseverance.
With the encouragement of her parents, Xiao Qi enrolled at the Qinghai Nationalities University in 2004. She chose to study social work, although she knew nothing about it! But as she pursued her degree, her knowledge of the discipline expanded, and a deep passion began to grow within her.
Xiao Qi dreamed of being an excellent social worker, and we saw her potential! Prior to her graduation in 2008, we recruited her to join Christian Action and our work at the Huangnan Children's Home which accommodates ethnic minority children.
Xiao Qi said, "At first, due to differences in customs, languages and professional expectations, I was overwhelmed with anxiety. Gradually I overcame it and finally recognized my own worth, and the community benefits of professional social work."
Recently Xiao Qi received the Outstanding Social Worker Award presented by the Qinghai Province Social Worker Association. This is the first time the Association has presented this award in Qinghai!
Xiao Qi told me, "It's a great honour to be recruited by Christian Action, and it opened a new chapter in my life. I thank Christian Action, my supervisors and friends for their support. Although I was given this Award, I think it is a shared recognition for Christian Action as well!"
