What an AMAZING Gift!
Cerebral palsy is the most common movement disorder in children. Its existence was documented by Hippocrates way back in the 5th Century BC. But this feared illness did not quench Eric's spirit or discourage him from getting on with life as best he could.
Eric is not my biological child, but I feel blessed that God gave him into our care and allowed us to share the joy and excitement of a major milestone in Eric's life.
Over 10 years ago Eric had surgery, but his legs are still bent and he can't stand without an aid. He spends most of his time in a wheelchair. Last November Eric (Zhou Zhi Li) came to Hong Kong to attend our Charity Dinner. He even performed Kung Fu on stage just like his hero, Bruce Lee! During that visit he went to our friend, Dr. Liu, for a routine medical check-up. Imagine our excitement when Dr. Liu stated that Eric's legs could be corrected through surgery which would give him the ability to walk!
So with his 18th birthday approaching, Eric came to Hong Kong with the help of Matilda Children's Foundation, and underwent two surgeries carried out by Dr. Liu. All went well, and with physiotherapy, he'll be walking in no time! WHAT AN AMAZING BIRTHDAY GIFT!
But the excitement didn't stop there. Eric was showered with love by many people as he visited Disneyland and his favorite: the Bruce Lee Exhibition! And to top it all off, on his actual birthday we threw him a Bruce Lee themed birthday party at which he entertained us with singing, shared a heartfelt message with everyone and gave me a handmade gift.
I couldn't hold back my tears as I watched this sweet boy now literally walking into adulthood! My heartfelt thanks to you all for helping to make this major milestone a winning post for Eric!
