What's beyond the Horizon?
As you know, Christian Action's home in New Horizons Building, Choi Hung, was last year slated for demolition and the land allocated to public housing and a school - despite the fact that there are several empty schools in the area. We are now in a serious predicament.
Christian Action has multiple service centres around the city, but our large headquarters in Choi Hung houses hundreds of staff and provides essential services to the surrounding local community. We are providing training classes, after school care, summer programmes, a cyber centre, canteen, community sales outlet and much, much more.
In an effort to find a suitable area for our relocation, we have written to implore government bureaus and departments for help, and have enquired about any and every possibility including vacant schools and other premises, but we are still facing the fact that we may be homeless.
In recent weeks, our plea has caught the attention of prominent figures in the public service sector including my dear friend Bernard Chan. Bernard graciously took to the English and Chinese media on our behalf to champion our work and bring awareness to our current situation. That has offered us some hope.
After three decades, the reality of losing our home is hard to stomach, but the threat of our organization folding up is a far greater fear, and I must be honest, it's kept me awake at night. But I find my strength in the Lord! For 30 years God has led us as an organization, sometimes through other arduous difficulties, and for this reason, I'm confident He will provide!
Please continue to pray that by some miracle we need not move. But if we must, pray that Christian Action can be re-established in an area accessible to our current community groups.
