Exploring Ngong Ping
Summer is the perfect time to go outdoors, explore new places with your loved ones, and make everlasting memories. For our ethnic minority friends, service users from low-income families, single-parent families, and the elderly, we do our best to share the joy of the summer holidays with them. We recently took around 250 of them out for a tour around Ngong Ping Village, a popular tourist spot in Lantau Island.
This trip meant to these families who are unable to explore Hong Kong as often as they wish. For most of them, this was their first visit to Ngong Ping Village. All the participants were brimming with excitement about the activities set for the day. Parents and children alike were laughing as they rode the cable car taking them up to the village and down again.
When they arrived at the village, the families were taken on an educational tour around sites such as the Nature Centre, Po Lin Monastery, and so on. It was really heartwarming to see everyone filled with joy - even if the tour took them to many different places. They were later refreshed and re-energised after being treated to a scrumptious lunch. One of the kids particularly enjoyed the vegetarian menu. He found it so yummy that he ate two bowls of rice!
We were also blessed to have with us Ms. Kwan Shuk Yee, District Social Welfare Officer (Kowloon City/Yau Tsim Mong), who was happy about the opportunity we gave to our friends to have fun with their loved ones.
I'm so thankful that we have these opportunities to spread happiness among our friends. Several of them said they were very grateful to have a breath of fresh air while spending quality time in a different place with their parents or children. I am also blessed to have a dedicated team who reach out to the ethnic minorities and other people in need. May God bless them all because they are a significant part of our community.
