Happy Birthday Green Connect!
I recently heard an inspiring radio show on the goodness of giving new life to tired, old and unwanted household items by upcycling them. With a little imagination, the show’s guest explained, the old can become new again, and best of all, upcycling reduces the amount of household waste going to the landfill. It is this mission that my Social Enterprise Division (SED) put into practice just over twelve months ago when we formed Green Connect!
Since starting the program Green Connect has served almost 500 attendances. The team has made upcycling presentations to corporations, schools, ethnic minorities, the elderly and other needy groups! They’ve also made use of the media - most recently on RTHK’s Happy Daily programme!
Green Connect’s advocacy work has also included a range of hands-on upcycling workshops. These included indigo dyeing recycle bags, refashioning T-shirts, plant dyeing, decorative pot planting and hand cream DIY. More recently however, COVID-19 and social distancing led us to pause our workshops. In true entrepreneurial fashion the Social Enterprise Division’s Green Connect team pivoted to putting their energy into selling upcycled items online! May this Easter weekend remind us all of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promise of new and eternal life for all who believe in him. May the Lord bless you and keep you and your family safe!
