Let’s Light up someone’s life with Love

To me, each of the service users is precious in God’s sight, and deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. We have been providing services to help Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) understand their basic rights, entitlements, and labour protection. While they stay with us at our shelters, they not only receive paralegal advice, but also psychological counseling in order to renew their hope and trust in relationships.

In the 27 years of MDW services, we have not received thank you letters from many pastors. When I read this note from a Sri Lankan Congregation Pastor of International Christian Assembly (ICA), who obviously knows that what we do is effective and is being appreciated, I felt really affirmed for hanging on to this indispensable ministry. I would like to share this letter with you. Perhaps as you read it, you will know more about our work.

“The Christian Action Centre for Migrant Domestic Workers has been very helpful to our Sri Lankan congregation. The congregation consists of Migrant Sri Lankan workers who are mainly domestic helpers in Hong Kong. The assistance we have received from the Christian Action Centre for Migrant Domestic Workers has been invaluable.

There have been many times that we have only had to give Tania (Centre in charge) a call when one of our members have been terminated in the night and have nowhere to go. The Centre would arrange things for them and find them a place to stay while they sorted out their employment issues. They have gone with our members to police stations to lodge complaints, accompanied them to the employers so they could get their belongings, they have taken them to immigration and assisted with the visa requirements, they have helped them lodge cases at the Labour Department. They also run various workshops in trying to make the migrant workers aware of their rights in Hong Kong.

I particular appreciate the love and respect that Christian Action Centre for Migrant Domestic Workers has always shown our members…We are indeed blessed by their ministry.”

Rev Osman De Alwis, ICA – Sri Lankan Congregation Pastor”

I am very thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to serve the migrant workers in their fight for social justice. You too can pitch in to help, for the needs continue to be tremendous. It is only with our donors’ and volunteers’ help that we can continue to sustain this ministry. Join us to make a difference in the migrant workers’ lives. You will help to light up their lives with love, joy and peace!
