MTR Helps Our Kids To Dream
The question ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ isn’t supposed to be a difficult one to answer. But for the roughly thirty underprivileged children in our Child Development Fund Programme, it is hard for them to imagine themselves doing anything other than what they see their parents doing now. On April 1st 2023 however, the MTR gave our kids a fabulous opportunity to catch a new vision for their lives!
I have always believed that underprivileged students must receive good education to break intergenerational poverty. They also need to have a dream, and the MTR event was a tremendous opportunity for them to broaden their horizons and experience things that they that they cannot learn in the classroom.
Our students visited the MTR Kowloon Bay Depot facilities and MTR Academy. They toured the train, experienced driving a virtual train using VR technology and received a detailed explanation for the operation of various equipment items required, from MTR volunteers.
Tony Chan and Jason Leung, both participants in the event, had the following to say about their experience -
"I love trains and I enjoy playing different driving games on the computer. I was very eager to take part in the virtual reality simulation operating a train; it was fantastic. I hope to work in the engineering department at MTR in the future.” – Tony Chan
"The VR interactive was the best high-tech virtual reality I have ever used! I'm grateful to the volunteers for helping me to understand railway engineering. I loved the sharing time and meeting individuals from beyond my area.” – Jason Leung
I am so thankful to the MTR, their Organizing Committee and their 30-plus volunteers who generously transported the students to the venue. The MTR’s vision and commitment has set a new standard for how corporates can serve students and young people in their local communities!
Thank you! Siew Mei
“MTR is aware that Christian Action provides mentorship services for grassroots students. Our hope is that the visit inspired the students and broadened their understanding about their possible future career paths.” - Candace, member of Organising Committee
