Less Talk, More (Christian) Action!

In my thirty-plus years of serving underprivileged communities, the injustices that migrant domestic helpers have had to suffer has grieved me constantly. When the pandemic struck it worsened considerably. Our city was terrified and felt helpless - which exaggerated unacceptable behavior, like the forced eviction of domestic helpers; resulting in some of them being left outside to fend for themselves in public parks; nothing could be more reprehensible!

On March 5th 2023 we collaborated with St. Andrew's Church, Harvest Mission Community Church (HMCC) and International Christian School (ICS) to organize a day of activities for domestic workers, and it was a resounding success!

Why Does She Do It?

Falguni Mather is not your typical volunteer. Over the past ten years she has spent over 500 hours serving the refugees at our Centre for Refugees (CFR). I asked Falguni “Why do you do it?” and she was kind enough to share her unique story:

From HK Refugee Camp to Hollywood

“Dreams are something you have to believe in. I almost gave up on mine. To all of you out there, please keep your dreams alive.”

Helping Our Friends

When a friend is unemployed you help them to find a job. That is precisely the action that Christian Action is continually taking when it hosts job fairs, like the one we just hosted on February 21st at the Amoy Plaza in Kwun Tong.

Funded by the Employees Retraining Board (ERB), the Fair had roughly 1,000 visitors. At the booths they could search and apply for the perfect job, be interviewed and get instant results. There were a record number of 400 applicants, of which 100 received job offers that very day!

It’s Astonishing How Much We Do for Women

I love listening to feedback from first time visitors to Christian Action. They’ll say things like: ‘I had no idea that so many of your programmes are tailored specifically to women and children!’- and they are right!

The International Women’s Day was yesterday, and it made me reflect on how much we’ve done to recognize women’s achievements and serve and advocate for them.
