A Month for Celebrating!

Serving people who are in need has always been our goal and this month Christian Action begins to celebrate its 25th Anniversary!  We sincerely thank God for His guiding hand on this work and ask you to pray with us that CA may continue to see the needs around us and compassionately respond.  The Government of HK encourages us in this aim.

On October 30th, at a Presentation of Awards ceremony, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin Chung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare said, "Christian Action is committed to serving the grass-roots workers, new arrivals and ethnic minorities, with the aim of helping disadvantaged groups to become more self-reliant, and build a better society." From a humble beginning of serving Vietnamese boat people, CA has become a reputable NGO in Hong Kong serving such a wide variety of people who need a helping hand.

"I would like to give special thanks for your extensive support and contribution to training, as you are involved in the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme and Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme of the Labour Department, and offer Skills Enhancement Courses and Continuing Education Fund courses. Christian Action is one of the major partners of the Employees Retraining Board, and it has been supporting this work since 1993. Up to now, more than 175,000 trainees have graduated. CA is also the first training body which provides vocational training courses in English Language for ethnic minorities."

Mr Stephen Lam, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, sent us his greetings, "The Government is firmly committed to providing an environment in which people of all racial and cultural backgrounds can live in harmony and make their best contribution to the betterment of our society."

"Christian Action has been our close partner for years in this regard... I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Christian Action for its commitment to and enthusiasm in providing the support services, and to the volunteers involved for their dedication to the efforts."

Recognition and Certificates of Appreciation were given to 300 outstanding trainers, trainees and volunteers.

Mr. Anthony Charter, JP, Chairman of CA's Executive Committee proudly asserted that "Christian Action is a professional training organization which has always been at the forefront of meeting the latest needs of Hong Kong’s unemployed and those wishing to re-enter the labour market, thus creating a win-win situation for both employers and employees."

Mr. Charter concluded his speech with these words:  "My warmest congratulations to Christian Action's dynamic staff and all our partners who have supported us in our work for so many years." From me, I want to thank all my colleagues for their labour and commitment in making Christian Action an agency that "makes a difference"!

God bless you!
