A Boy Who Steals Hearts!
This week I'm introducing you to perhaps the bravest little boy I have ever met. His name is Bin Bin. In 1998, at two weeks old, he was abandoned, probably because he had several congenital deformities. Someone picked him up and took him to the police station. There were no clues and his parents could not be located, so he was admitted to our Children's Home.
Binbin's deformities included a deformed skull, webbed fingers and toes, and a concave face. Since then he has had had eight major surgical procedures, and in 2001 his webbed fingers were separated at Beijing Plastic Surgery Hospital. In July 2002 surgery was done on his deformed skull and there is some improvement in the shape of his head. In June 2005 there was further surgery on both hands at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. Bin Bin now lives happily in our Small Group Home with his friends. But that's not all there is to say about this child.
Bin Bin wins the hearts of all who meet him. His tolerance of pain has been extraordinary and he always woke up from surgery with a smile, because he knew that everything was being done to help him live a more fulfilling life. The pain of hand surgery is intense, particularly when nerves at the tips of the fingers are involved, yet Bin Bin wanted it because he wanted to hold a pencil, a spoon, a toy, and all the other things other children do.
Believe it or not, after many hours of rehabilitation training, Bin Bin can now pick up a pin from a table surface!
He is full of energy and very cute. He loves singing and dancing, and enthusiastically greets visitors to the Home and leads them on a tour of the Home. The staff say he loves helping them sweep the rooms and clean the Home.
In October 2007, when our new Xining Children Rehabilitation Centre opened, Bin Bin started going to school and having special education lessons. He can now write even complicated words, and his daily lessons include mathematics and drawing.
In an interview, Director Zeng of Qinghai Civil Affairs Bureau said, "My deepest experience is the way Christian Action has influenced and been able to help a particular disabled child. The child in my mind is Bin Bin. He suffers multiple disabilities and had many surgeries - a total of eight surgeries in Beijing and Hong Kong. I am sure that without those operations he would not have survived. But now Bin Bin is a very healthy child and personally I am very touched and moved that this child's life exists because of the cooperation between Christian Action and the government."
Thank you to all of you who give generously to help us continue to serve the most vulnerable in all of society. Our goal is to save children, help them live life to the fullest and decrease child abandonment in Qinghai. If Bin Bin knew each of you, he'd give you one of his big smiles, win your heart, and proudly shake your hand with both of his now useful hands! Please join us in prayer that Bin Bin and the other children in our Home can be adopted or find loving foster homes soon. Thank you.
God bless you all!

We had the privillage to meet Bin Bin in 2008 and he will always be in our hearts. We think of him often and pray he too will be able to find the forever family he so deserves.
I met Bin Bin when I went to China with my 10 year –old-daughter, Hannah to adopt Caroline (Zhou Yuxin). Caroline is in the photo of the children sitting on the sofa-second from the right. We have never forgotten Bin Bin or the people we met on that trip. Hannah was adopted at 7 months, so the trip was a real eye opener. I am happy to report that all three of my Chinese daughters are doing well. Hannah is 15 and a sophomore at the Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, Maryland. Allison is 13 years old and attends the Washington Lab School in Baltimore. Caroline is almost 10 and will soon be joining Allie at the Lab school because she has a language disorder that requires her to be in a visually based classroom setting. She is very smart.
We, too, had the great priviledge of meeting Bin Bin on our trip to adopt our daughter, Lin Jia Yuan. His smile could light up the room and he led us on a tour of his room. We will always keep Bin Bin and all of the other children and workers in our hearts. We pray that Bin Bin will find his forever home and know that they would be blessed to have such a wonderful child! Lin Jia Yuan has done wonderfully. She celebrated her 5th birthday, today, and we are so lucky to have both of our Chinese daughters in our lives! We were very impressed by the employees of the childrens' home and Christian Action! Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work!
Thank God for all your wonderful loving services to God's children.
May God bless you forevermore!
Dear Pastor Fung,
Thank you for your encouragement. It is only with God's strength and favour that all these "life saving" deeds can be accomplished. It is His will for me and others to help His lovely children and I am so blessed that He gave me this opportunity to serve Him in ways that surprises me and all those who know me.
God's blessing to your ministry in Christ Jesus,
Siew Mei
The surgeries that Bin Bin underwent earlier have brought him hope, and the hope brings him smiles. Bin Bin is always so cheerful and helpful. I was so impressed by his innocent smile. Let’s keep Bin Bin in our prayers!
Thanks for your prayers and support, Kristy. Sharon, glad to know that your three girls are doing so well. And Renee, I’m sure your family must have had lots of fun with Jia Yuan on her birthday. Please send my love to the little girl!
May God continue to shower Bin Bin and all of you with more blessings and good health.
Love,
Siew Mei
Siew Mei,
Having now seen Bin Bin several times, I can vouch for his incredible tenacity and joy!
What a great encouragement from Pastor Fung!
