Looking through the eyes of Love
There are times in our lives when we unexpectedly witness what we know is a miracle. I believe you will be as encouraged as I am about the following incident told to me by Ida, a colleague who serves in one of our Children's Homes in Qinghai.
I’ve experienced God in my work recently. One day while feeding a child who has Cerebral Palsy I realized God really is always present with us.
I usually feed this child, so I’m familiar with his ways. He has problems opening his mouth and finds swallowing difficult. It usually takes several minutes to get the first spoonful of rice into his little mouth. On this particular day, he initially refused to eat, and when I finally coaxed him to eat a spoonful, he spat it out! I had never seen him react like this before.
I asked myself what the problem could be. Was he sick? No, his care assistant said he showed no signs of discomfort or difficulty breathing. Was his pillow in the wrong place? Was he sitting comfortably? After a few adjustments, he still refused to eat. After 45 minutes he still had not eaten a bite, despite my best efforts. All the other children had eaten as usual and were getting ready for their naps. What should I do now? I felt very anxious and pressurized.
Suddenly I realized my attitude was all wrong, that I had been focusing entirely on what I wanted to achieve. I knew I needed to turn my focus to the Lord so I prayed: “God, I know that you love this child, you know his pain, please help him…” Then I offered the child another spoonful and he did something remarkable - he opened his mouth and slowly ate the rice! And then he ate the whole bowl of rice.
I got very excited. I had truly witnessed the love of God for this child and for me! During my own lunch time I shared this special experience with my husband. He reminded me that God uses this type of situation to teach us to be humble and forsake our pride.
Please join me as I pray that God will keep on blessing the children and staff working at Qinghai Children’s Homes.
Jesus said… 'Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' (Matthew 25:40)
