Mission Accomplished!

When we raise up a child in the way he or she should go, we parents have to consider an all-round education - not just in school studies, but also in preparation for responsible community life. We try to do the same through Christian Action's service.

Many of our Pak Ming Tak Scholarship recipients who are studying in Xining are orphans. They have lived on welfare all their lives. They have no idea that they have something of value to give to others, so we showed them that they too have something to give.

Serving Lunch!

We invited a group of students to do community service at Xining Children’s home and Rehabilitation Centre. Fifteen fresh faced volunteers arrived, brimming over with enthusiasm. They were excited about getting down to doing something different.

In the rehab section, they began by rearranging heavy furniture to create a cosy meeting area where families can congregate while their children have therapy. Then the students moved on to the orphanage next door to help feed the hungry children. This affected them on a deep level.  They understood firsthand how dependent the children are on others for their care. At the same time, they saw each child’s unique character. None of the students could resist the sweet faces of the children, whose smiles will stay in their memories for a long time!

Dr. Yue, one of our Board members was one of the instigators of this initiative. He said, “The scholarship students need to learn that they too have value in society. Community service will leave a lasting impression.” Wise words from our very own philosopher! (He has a Ph.D. in the subject.)

During the debriefing session, the students compared their own health and strength with the severely disabled children they’d just fed; children who are likely to spend the rest of their lives dependent on others. The students realized that although they too were orphans, they had the ability to work for a better future, and they had the ability to get involved in the community and help others. This was not something they could readily comprehend from a school book!

Our mission was accomplished!
