Two Angels

I have just returned from England, where I spent two weeks meeting with Christian Action's supporters and also with others who did not know about the opportunities open to us in Qinghai. Their positive response and earnest desire to help the orphans and abandoned children was truly gratifying. I was particularly humbled and inspired to continue this work by two people.

I met David while visiting St. Andrews Church in Gloucester. He approached me after I had shared our vision and mission. Born with Cerebral Palsy, David can’t use words, but that didn’t reduce the impact of the message he had for me. Over and over again, he gave me the thumbs up sign, followed by the traditional gesture of thanks - palms together and a slight bow.  His intensity gave me the impression that he really understood that Christian Action saves children's lives in Qinghai and that some of our children also have Cerebral Palsy, just like him.

The second little messenger from God who inspired me was Lewis.  He is blind, and has difficulty speaking and walking, but he was very bold, and asked me many questions about our work. When he discovered that I would again be speaking later that day, he postponed his return home to Bristol (an hour away) so he stayed for the second service, and learnt more about the children in Qinghai.

The effects of jetlag and a tight schedule had made me very tired, but the encouragement I received from Lewis and David enabled me to keep going. I knew that God had sent these two ‘angels’, who represent the children in our Homes, to encourage me to continue working to give them a hope and a future.

I also met with Chinese speaking congregations in Manchester, Birmingham and London and with several donors who want to support our work in Qinghai.  The response to my appeals for prayer and donations was very positive.  My visit was neatly rounded off with a special meeting at Holy Trinity, Brompton, now famous for the Alpha course. They have invited me to speak at Focus week in 2013, so I’m excited to see new relationships unfold.

Thank you to all of you who care about our children!
