Prayers answered, Opportunities Given!

I recently attended the annual meeting of the Qinghai Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), for the fourteenth consecutive year. The relationships that were established during this trip have given me the opportunity to reflect on the miraculous journey I have been on for the last 16 years.

I have a few different homes: Malaysia, where I was born; the UK where I was educated and where my husband’s extended family lives; my own family home in Hong Kong; and my home in Xining, where I feel God has given me many children, friends to help care for them, and a completely different way of life. I love visiting Qinghai because a side of me emerges that is not evident in any of my other homes. Speaking Mandarin is very unusual for a girl educated in Malay and in English. Being a member of the CPPCC is even more unusual. This is where God has miraculously created connections and poured out blessings in many unexpected ways. It has been a great privilege to make friends with ordinary women who have opened their hearts and homes to be foster parents to our children. My friends include the officials who run the children’s homes in Qinghai, the adoptive parents in other parts of the world, my colleagues, and so many supporters of this wonderful work. I wish I could list them all here!

Elected as a Standing Committee Member

This year I was promoted to the CPPCC Standing Committee, an appointment recognising Christian Action’s work among the most vulnerable people in Qinghai: orphans and very poor nomadic Tibetan families and their children. After 16 years, the government of Qinghai has honoured Christian Action’s work under my leadership.

My husband Marlon accompanied me to assist with complex political terms, which I’m still mastering in Mandarin. During that time he had many opportunities to share with government officials how God is healing him of cancer. We were overwhelmed by the warmth of their response, and grateful to God for the opportunity of sharing the good news. Marlon was also appointed as an honorary president of the Qinghai Charity Hospital, which will meet the health needs of the poorest of poor Tibetans, strengthening Christian Action's role in their lives.

This is a time of Christ's resurrection, and his gift of eternal life for those who believe. Just as God gives us the opportunity for a new life in Jesus' death and resurrection, I see God providing all the children who come to us with a greater chance for a full and rewarding life. Please rejoice with us as we celebrate Easter!
