The Kingdom of Heaven
If I hadn't attended a Sunday school in Malaysia, and then took religious studies in my teens, I wonder where I'd be now!
After many years the friends I'd made in Sunday school came together last month on a trip to Qinghai, where I shared the work that Christian Action has been doing in China since 1997. Our Sunday school teacher, Pastor Sung and my current pastor, Peter Hurricks, together with their wives, also came with us, as did a close Malaysian friend from Hong Kong. It was wonderful!
In Xining, Qinghai's capital, we all attended the Sunday service. It was a surprise to find that a pastor from Australia was there to preach the sermon. It was amazing that four pastors from different countries and regions had come together in this service!
I planned to have my pastors inaugurate the Prayer Room at our institute a few days later, but I never imagined we’d end up having FOUR pastors from different parts of the world joining us for that special day! Even more overwhelming was that the local staff members and adult orphans came to join us as well. I was really moved to see the room overflowing with love.
Christian Action is grateful for the Lord's blessings and our marvellous team in Qinghai, who share their love with everyone they encounter. There is always a tendency for Christians to suffer from burn out as they work, but according to the prophet Isaiah the promise still stands: "... those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40:31)
I do believe that all people, including ethnic minorities, are loved by God. When we surrender ourselves to Him, His love shines through us to other people. As we have honored God, and worked in the power of the Holy Spirit, our work in Qinghai has been blessed, and we are grateful for that blessing.
By the end of the tour, we all felt God’s grief over these helpless children who had been brought to us in great distress. Qinghai is a remote and lonely place, and we feel the pain of our colleagues when they resign or face difficulties in raising funds to continue the work. Please join us in prayer as my husband Marlon and I continue to pray for the children and the staff in that remote part of the world.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14)
