Our 30th Anniversary Celebration

We are indeed grateful for the generous support of our donors and stakeholders over the past 30 glorious years of work for the needy. We celebrated this milestone and held our 30th anniversary Celebration Ceremony in Wong Tai Sin district on 26th September to share the fruit reaped throughout these decades. Before the event, unexpected and heavy rain suddenly fell and brought flooding in that area. Even though the road was blocked, it could not deter our VIP partners and guests from attending the ceremony as they made every effort to come from a different route. I am grateful for their staunch support and participation that made this event a memorable occasion. A warm thanks to our service users from our foreign domestic helpers, new arrivals and refugee programmes who graced our stage and stared in the photo exhibition and our anniversary video.

Christian Action has witnessed many miracles throughout the years! Our journey began in 1985 as a crisis agency, Hong Kong Christian Aid to Refugees (HKCAR) to serve Vietnamese Refugees fleeing for their lives. I joined HKCAR in 1986, and I was invited to apply for the position of Executive Director in 1992. My competitor was a 60-year-old Englishman retiring from the Education Department. The first miracle was that I, a 32-year-old, got the job! I was asked to write a proposal about the future I envisioned for the organization. It was imminent that HKCAR would shut down after the refugees were moved from Hong Kong in 1997, so I turned to God in prayer asked for Him to reveal His plan. God answered and gave me a picture of suffering people in Hong Kong and suffering children in China. This vision would pave the way for Christian Action's work in Hong Kong and Qinghai, China.

I began to see that vision unfold as I witnessed another miracle - the development of Christian Action's partnership with Employees Retraining Board (ERB) by supporting Vocational Training Council in soft skills training in 1993. I must offer my heartfelt thanks to the ERB for their trust and confidence in Christian Action all these years. We have now become one of the biggest training bodies in Hong Kong, providing training courses to over 10,000 people a year.

My vision came to full fruition as we began programmes in Qinghai in 1997. Through these services, I have seen yet another miracle unfold as we have been caring for orphans and other Tibetans in Qinghai for 18 years under the banner of 'Christian Action'. What an incredible opportunity to showcase the work of Christ! We are not a subvented agency, so funding is not guaranteed, but as we continue to serve the underprivileged, we trust God to provide.

I'm so grateful to those who have encouraged me through the years and wish to give a special tribute to my beloved colleagues and the board who have helped build an agency from the ground up! Now, 30 years later, we're still growing. A true testimony to God's faithfulness and his favor as we serve the unserved! God bless you all!
