Market Generosity

No, not the stock market! I'm referring to the generosity of the Association of Yau Ma Tei Wholesale Fruit Market. That's where the working hours of men and women begin at 4 a.m.

Perhaps because they understand what it's like to work hard, they willingly stepped in to help others in a challenging situation.

A few weeks ago, we celebrated Spring Festival. Many Chinese families enjoy this festive season by going out to a restaurant to savor a big steaming pot, known as a 'Basin Feast'. But many of the mothers in our New Arrivals programme are unable to provide more than the basic necessities of life for their children.

Kam, a widowed mother of two who moved her family to Hong Kong hoping for a better life, had never enjoyed this special meal with her family. But thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our friends at the Association of Yau Ma Tei Wholesale Fruit Market, nearly four hundred of Christian Action's New Arrivals filled 30 tables at the market to celebrate the meal!

Kam even took time off from her two part-time jobs as a cleaner to enjoy this memorable day with her children, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

The market itself is an historical site, founded in 1913, making for an even more unique experience for our families.

I wholeheartedly encourage all who wish to sponsor similar outings! These events give families unique opportunities to build happy memories and take time out from the never-ending stress of daily life.
