Camping at New Horizons!
One of the best things about our New Horizons Building is the space it provides. We recently hosted a total of 30 new arrival families and close to 60-70 people! It was the PLK Madam Chan Wai Chau Memorial School Family Day Camp, and it was packed with fun activities for everyone.
The families played some warm-up games to start the day off, and then there were a few children's adventure games, filled with fun props like brightly coloured pool noodles and plastic balls. The kids were eager to work together as a team, and surprisingly, the parents seemed to have an equal amount of fun.
There was also an opportunity for parents to attend their own workshops. The parent workshops were lively, and each person in the room actively participated and asked many questions. One parent shared with us, "I learned a lot in the workshop today, and I plan to apply some of the principles at home." Other parents shared how they would have loved even more adventure games with their children, as this time together is often rare for many families in the community.
As for the children, it seemed to fill a real need as some of the children will be transferring schools next year. This was the perfect opportunity for them to spend time with their dear friends and wish them well on their next adventure!
How wonderful it is that we are blessed with such a warm and inviting space that we can share with communities in need. I am so thankful for New Horizons Building, the refuge that it is, and the years we have spent serving our community under its roof. And as always, I thank God for providing this space and for giving us the courage and faith to reach out to our neighbours in need.
