Touching Young Lives
"Christian Action's devotion to loving and helping others has greatly inspired my life's dedication to serve others by helping those in need!" Those were the words of Cao, a taxi driver in Qinghai who drove our disabled children for a medical check-up 13 years ago. Since then, he has continued to mobilise a team of taxi drivers to serve vulnerable groups.
This year, we were blessed to join hands with the driving team again as they drove to mountainous areas, to bring some joy to the children by giving them warm clothes, because the cold season is fast approaching.
It took about two hours for driver Cao's team to reach the primary school. The school has only eight students and a teacher who has a disability. Most of the parents of these children work in urban areas, so the children have been left behind. These kids often live with their relatives or grandparents, who give them the parental love and care they need.
After our team of drivers arrived, they gave away winter hats, gloves and other warm clothing to these lovely children. My heart melted when I saw photos of the children beaming with joy, as if they were receiving the toy they had wanted most. I believe that it was not only the clothes that made them happy, but also the love and care which they saw in our actions.
Driver Cao's team and CA colleagues, Woody and Mary, spent the whole day with the children, playing games and singing and dancing together. The children were shy at first, but they soon relaxed and started enjoying the company of our team. Throughout the day, the children had opportunities to talk about their dreams, such as wanting to be a teacher, a doctor, or a soldier! I was struck by the thought that these children have such big dreams, yet they were born and raised in a small rural village. Their dreams are compassionate and generous. They repeated their desire to help others.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to Driver Cao's team and our CA staff for this wonderful experience of touching the children's lives. Under our Lord's guidance, I am confident that we will be able to continue cooperating with more local groups to serve deprived children and teens in the community beyond our Children's Home.
