A Packet Full of Blessings
When I was growing up in Malaysia, family get-togethers during Chinese New Year were filled with joy, especially when our parents and relatives gave us little red packets to express their love and blessing. This tradition inspired us to create our Red Packet for Every Home campaign. It invites everyone, especially children, to share their red packets with those brothers and sisters in Hong Kong and Qinghai who are less fortunate.
You may think those little red packet monies would have little impact, so here's the story of Xiao Rang, one of our lovely kids in Qinghai. He was immensely blessed because of our campaign.
Xiao Rang was born with a significant hearing impairment. When he was a toddler, he was cared for by his maternal grandparents. Unfortunately, his hearing condition worsened and his family was not able to provide the help he needed, so he was sent to Huangnan Children's Home in 2018.
He was unable to speak because he couldn't hear and express himself, but he is actually a very smart boy. He quickly learned to use gestures we taught him so that he could connect with other kids and interact with them. These days, he is always smiling! We have continued to ensure that he receives check-ups for his hearing at Qinghai University Affiliated Hospital. We have also sought medical advice from local and foreign experts. Our social workers have also worked with a school for the hearing impaired to ensure that Xiao Rang is educated. We are so glad to see that he is happily learning sign language which will help him overcome the obstacles in his life.
We are filled with hope and excitement about how Xiao Rang will grow into the wonderful person he ought to be. I hope that his story inspires and encourages you to see that giving to those who need help will make a difference in the lives of others who are like Xiao Rang. Would you please consider supporting the Red Packet for Every Home campaign and join with us in changing more lives?
