More Reasons to Celebrate
I have always thought that a job should not only be about earning a living, but also about helping to change the lives of those who live without hope, and help them live a life of fulfillment and blessing. That is why CA has been providing training to the unemployed since 1993. Many of those people were then able to enter or re-enter the workforce. To date, we have served well over 290,000 people and we are known as one of the largest professional retraining organisations in Hong Kong!
On 11 December 2019, we had a corporate luncheon with over 90 special guests to not only celebrate the fruitfulness of our work, but also the 10th Anniversary of the Training Service Trade Advisory Committee (TSTAC). It was a joy to see so many guests at this occasion, and especially to welcome Mr. Patrick Pang Bing Hung, Deputy Executive Director (Training Services), Employees Retraining Board (ERB). He is our long term partner and we have been working together since the late 1990s', together with Mr. C K Lam, Senior Manager (Course Development), ERB.
The atmosphere was friendly and cordial, and was more like old friends' greeting each other and sharing the latest news. I also took the opportunity to highlight the efforts of our TSTAC that the number of member committees increased from just 28 in 2010 to 80 today. I was happy to see some of the corporates being given the Employers Outstanding Award by ERB! In his speech, Mr. Pang also acknowledged our achievement in commencing the ERB programme, and encouraged all of us to maintain our active role during hard times.
I was blessed to hear some of the success stories told by our retrainees, especially the story of Ah Sau. In 2018 she did a Clinic Assistant course because she saw the opportunities in Chinese medicine practice. She wanted to learn more about herbal medicine, not just for herself but also others. We referred her to a Chinese Medicine Clinic for an internship. The Clinic was happy to train her and Ah Sau was very happy to work in the clinic, meet people, and learn about traditional medicine formation. She was always smiling! I could see how her story touched every heart in the room!
As always, I would like to state my appreciation of our staff at the Training Services Division, whose passion is to serve the unemployed, to give them hope for the future. I will continue to pray for everyone to remain faithful, dedicated and committed to the community.
