Legacy of our Father’s Love
I recently went to support the art exhibition of my dear friend, Angela Anita Wong. It is called, “Legacy of Father’s Love”. It not only honours her late father but also encourages people to enjoy a good relationship with our Heavenly and earthly fathers. Angela raises funds to support Hong Kong’s deprived communities. She donates some of the proceeds from the sales of her artwork to various charities. Christian Action is one of the beneficiaries.
At the exhibition, Angela shared her moving story of estrangement and reunion with her earthly father, and her conversion to Christianity which connects her to our heavenly Father. Angela’s story is a journey in emotional healing. At the age of seven, Angela’s parents were divorced and she lost contact with her father. When Angela became a Christian, she struggled to find her way to God. She says, “I was deprived of paternal love so it hindered me from getting close to my heavenly Father.”
Angela returned to Hong Kong determined to find and be reunited with her father. After they were reunited, she left her own business to help at her father’s company because his health had declined. Moved by Angela’s sacrifice and her own connection with God, her father then believed in God and before he died he was saved by faith. Angela wants to use her paintings to remind people to cherish those around us. “Many of my paintings include hands reaching out, just as I did when I contacted my long-lost father.” The small act of reaching out can achieve huge results!
Since becoming a follower of Jesus, Angela has been heavily involved in various evangelistic activities. She has gone on mission trips to places like Mongolia, South Africa, Kenya, the Philippines and Indonesia. She is also active in Hong Kong, and is connected with various Christian ministries. She leads weekly Bible studies at fellowship groups and offers individual counselling to ex-prisoners.
I met Angela 10 years ago at a Walk to Emmaus retreat. At that time, I was struggling at work and in my church. Angela mentored me and helped me overcome my anguish. I will always be grateful for her kindness.
At Angela’s exhibition, I was very touched to hear her passionate sharing of her faith. Like Christian Action, Angela goes above and beyond to serve the unserved. When she learned about our Food Programme, she immediately decided to donate the proceeds from her artwork sales to our campaign to feed the hungry!
Angela hopes people will be emotionally moved by her artworks. She says, “I believe our Father’s love could fill our city with joy and beauty… then there would be no more orphans in this world!” Angela prays our old wounds will be healed and for our city to be full of love. I truly admire Angela’s selflessness in making the world a better place. Her sharing and paintings made me reflect on my relationships and be grateful for the family I have at home, at church, and at Christian Action.
