God is an Artist
This Winter, we will once again launch our annual Season of Love campaign, knowing that it will give joy to hundreds of children. Since 2012, many thousands of dollars have been raised to help children from disadvantaged homes in Hong Kong, as well as orphans and children living with disabilities in Qinghai.
This year, we will feature designs by Bao Ho and Janice Lamlum, two young and promising local talents. You will remember Bao from the article about the murals at our Choi Wan headquarters. This season, she will promote our Mustard Seed vision with her illustrations on tote bags and a notebook. We are also delighted that Lamlum will spread God’s love through her creativity with Pastel Nagomi Art on Christmas-themed prints and coaster designs. Lamlum attends International Christian Assembly (ICA). She said, “While in university, I heard many stories about the low-income families in Hong Kong, so I decided to volunteer at CA’s Mongkok Service Centre.” It was also through ICA that Lamlum met my husband, Marlon. They are classmates at the School of Supernatural Ministry where Lamlum prays for those who need God’s healing.
Ever since she was a little girl, Lamlum has been a devout Christian with a penchant for drawing. Earlier this year she completed her most impressive creation – it was a giant mural on a 17-storey building on Temple Street. The titled of the painting is “Feast of Jesus”. It shows people of different races, social status and age gathered to enjoy the feast. Lamlum says, “If I am to write Bible verses, I may have to write in different languages to reach a larger audience. Colours and images can penetrate your mind and speak to your soul, and community arts have a huge effect in bringing people together to witness God’s miracles.”
Before the pandemic this year, Lamlum went to homes for the elderly and taught painting. Today she gives regular art classes to private students. She said, “I have experienced God’s love so I want to use my paintings to communicate His wonders and let others feel God’s presence. God is very creative and the world is His creation.” She jokes, “He even created many artists to continue showing us his vision!. This Season of Love, Lamlum is selling her Christian paintings on canvas and diatomaceous earth coasters. One of her works is “Beautiful Exchange”, in which Jesus looks like he’s falling. “Originally, we should be the ones falling. Jesus swapped places with us and took our punishment for us. He died for us. He is our judge so we should not judge ourselves.”
Lamlum is such an inspiration to us all. I am so glad to have a brave, passionate and talented sister like her to spread God’s love. I look forward to having you join us this winter to bring God’s love and joy to all the children out there! This is the Season of Love!
