Safe against COVID-19

God is helping us through another challenge as the fourth wave of COVID-19 hits Hong Kong. We wanted our vulnerable clients to spend Christmas under a safe roof, and we wanted them to welcome a new year with us.

Home, for most of us, is a haven against the virus, but it is not so for many of our clients. They live in mouldy, cramped subdivided units that are often overcrowded. These risky living areas are a reality for asylum seekers, single parents, young couples, and new arrivals from Mainland China who may not have the luxury of working from home. The outbreak among domestic workers who still frequent populated markets and shops, has added another demographic to this high-risk group.

To ensure our clients have peace of mind during this pandemic, we’ve teamed up with the local firm, Aloes Tree. They will spray hundreds of subdivided units. This company uses photocatalyst technology. It coats surfaces and kills germs and viruses with effects that last at least a year. While doing this good deed, Aloes Tree has also offered a very generous discount to churches and organisations. It will match every square footage it disinfects for paid clients with the same area in subdivided homes.

When the team in hazmat suits showed up at their homes, our clients were surprised and suspected the spray’s effectiveness. But after some thorough explanations from our staff and Aloes Tree’s team members, they welcomed the service with delight.

Thanks to our Lord, by the end of December, Aloes Tree had disinfected 21 subdivided flats. They also did Christian Action’s 20 service points including two shelters for migrant domestic workers. Around 80 more subdivided homes are expected to be sprayed in the months ahead.
