Food Station Festivities

A huge smile spread across Cody’s face as he received a mooncake. It was the first time he had ever been given a mooncake. It was as big as his hand! Before his mother said a word, Cody ripped open the package and gobbled up the mooncake. His mother laughed and said, “We need to save the mooncakes for Mid-Autumn Festival!” But Cody simply looked at her in wonder - he loved his mooncake!

Mooncakes and other traditional festive foods are delicious delicacies that cost the same as a meal for a family of three. Most underprivileged families, like Cody’s family, cannot afford these traditional festival foods and have never even tasted them. Cody and his mother left our centre with hands full with mooncakes and hearts filled with gratitude.

I am pleased that we could bless 500 families with these festive annual treats. Our partner corporations helped us tremendously by donating and distributing the delicacies from our Food Station. We hosted the events at the Food Station, which was the perfect space for the company employees to meet and present festive food to our service users.

As World Food Day approaches, Christian Action strives to provide sustainable nutrition to people who do not have the resources to provide balanced diets for their families. Since 2020, our Food Station has been distributing monthly food packs to over 500 local Chinese and ethnic minority families.

I am thankful for the connections we have with food organisations that supply the food packs. Food Angel and Feeding Hong Kong collect and donate Hong Kong’s surplus food to feed the hungry people in the grassroots communities. Upper Rice gives us a big discount which allows us to distribute 5kg rice packs to each family every month.

Christian Action is always looking for new partners to support our Food Station. In the spirit of the upcoming World Food Day on 16 October, please consider using your Consumption Voucher to make a donation to “Our Daily Rice” Campaign!
