A Parable of the Mooncake Talents
Three years ago, by the grace of God, my good friend, Dr. Charmaine Tse, who is also Christian Action's advisor, invited Ms. Jennie Chen to support CA’s work. Since then, we have spent much time discussing ways to champion important CA ministries in HK and Qinghai. As Mid-Autumn Festival is at hand, we took this opportunity to bless the less fortunate families in HK as well as to raise funds for CA’s Season of Love Charity Drive.
It is God’s blessing that Charmaine’s family owns Tai Tung Bakery, one of HK’s most famous traditional bakeries. Apart from a mooncake fund-raising campaign, Charmaine suggested to gift mooncakes to under-privileged families, showing them the love of Christ in action. She shared this charity vision with her father and he immediately agreed to donate 300 mooncakes and subsidise over 3,000 more.
Jennie was fantastic with her fundraising efforts! She encouraged her Saturday Bible/Prayer Fellowship and friends to sponsor the cost of the mooncakes. Jennie told us, "We read the Bible together and it taught us to look out for the poor, widows, orphans, and the underprivileged. I encouraged everyone in the Fellowship to practice what we learnt from the Bible." Jennie’s enthusiasm touched the heart of her fellow group members and they all became supporters in this charity campaign.
The Season of Love Charity Drive will sell Tai Tung Bakery's mooncakes to the Hong Kong community, so you can now purchase boxes of four mooncakes, or individually packed mooncakes online! CA will compliment purchases of two or more mooncakes with our ‘Mustard Seed Vision’ tote bag. The mooncake will be ready for collection in early September 2021. Extra donations are also welcome and all proceeds will go towards our services to low-income families, orphans, and children with disabilities.
I am thankful for my two very benevolent friends, Charmaine and Jennie, and their obedience and faithfulness to God. They are committed Christian women with incredible skills. I am encouraged by how the Lord has used their gifts and the compassion of Jesus to grow His Kingdom. Our work on this campaign as we stewarded the resources God gave us and multiplied them for His glory reminds me of the Parable of the Talents. I look forward to future creative collaborations with Charmaine and Jennie!
We are still looking for more funds to produce mooncakes, especially from corporate sponsors who may ceremonially give mooncakes to clients or staff. Please contact us via email: fr@christian-action.org.hk / tel: 2716 8862 for more details.
