From Shy Teen to Inspired Adult

When Fung first came to Christian Action (CA) he was a closed-off and shy 16-year-old. He has a big heart and good intentions, so his goal was to become a teacher and help others. Fung had no idea how he could achieve that goal. When he was at secondary school, he heard about CA’s Child Development Fund (CDF) and decided to join. He found that he was with other teens who were also from grassroots families and who could relate to his difficult experiences of growing up in Hong Kong. He listened to their stories and started to feel more comfortable around his peers, his social workers and his mentors.

Fung began coming out of his shell. He saw others communicating effectively and learned how to express his thoughts and emotions. Over the next six years of participating in CDF and post-CDF programmes, Fung gradually transformed into an open and inspired young adult with a clear vision and plan for his future.

I am amazed to see how much Fung has changed through CDF! He now has the social skills, practical tools and mental motivation to succeed in life. To show his gratitude, he supports Christian-Action's On Tai Service Centre as a CDF mentor. He is also studying social work in college because he wants his life’s work to give back to his community and positively affect other people’s lives. We can’t wait to see where Fung’s potential takes him into the future!

Season of Love (SOL) charity drives have funded the CDF programmes that Fung joined. There are still many young Hong Kong teens who need our help and mentorship to help make their dreams come true. Please support our present SOL mooncake charity drive which will continue until September 2021. You can help impact the lives of children like Fung.

We want to generate generous donations so that we can expand our social services and meet the needs of the youth of Hong Kong.
