Mooncakes Give Hope!
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
I am so pleased with the results of our Season of Love Mooncake Charity Drive. We have sold over 3,700 mooncakes and raised funds that will abundantly support our services in Hong Kong and Qinghai. About one thousand mooncakes have been donated to low-income families for the upcoming holiday. We are so grateful to our donors and sponsors for their generosity in supporting our Charity Drive.
One of the students who will benefit from the charity drive is Jia Jia. She is one of our superstar students at Huangnan Children’s Home!
Jia Jia came to us after a tragic accident tore her family apart. She became a “left-behind child” when she was seven years old and her parents moved from their rural hometown to a big city. They hoped to give their daughter a better life by making higher wages as fruit sellers. Shortly after they left Qinghai, their home province, Jia Jia’s parents were involved in a terrible car crash which took her mother’s life and severely injured her father. With no family members able to properly care for her, Jia Jia moved to Huangnan Children’s Home in early 2013.
Despite her grief and sudden change of circumstances, Jia Jia flourished in the Children’s Home. She made friends quickly and excelled in her studies. The staff at the Home provided family-like care and quality education. Jia Jia developed into a compassionate, disciplined and joyful young lady. Now 15-years-old, Jia Jia is a superstar student in secondary school. She is determined to ace her exams and then attend university.
Christian Action gave Jia Jia hope by loving and encouraging her to pursue a bright and boundless future. I pray for this gifted and courageous young woman, and I thank all our donors for supporting the Charity Drive during this Mid-Autumn Festival season. Your generosity gives children like Jia Jia the opportunity to live successful lives.
