The Airline Flight That Lasts A Lifetime
“I was most excited when the plane started speeding down the runway. It was so noisy! And the sinking feeling right after the take-off made some of us so scared that they even threw up!” - One of the children from our Centre.
Do you remember the first time you ever flew in an airplane? The excitement as you boarded? The cacophony of noise as it hurtled down the runway? We all do. And that’s why I’m so grateful for the Lions Club of Kowloon City.
In November last year the Lions Club of Kowloon City partnered with us to give a select group of underprivileged children from our Center an one-hour flight over Hong Kong. The ‘Triumph in the Skies’ event was an unimaginable gift to these children - none of whom had ever been airborne or even owned a passport!
Listening to the children’s excitement as they marveled at Hong Kong’s landscape reminded me of my first flight. I too was from a grassroots family (in Malaysia) and I was lucky enough to receive a Kentucky Fried Chicken scholarship to study in England!
The Lions Club of Kowloon City has given these children a gift that will not only stay with them for the rest of their lives, it will also hopefully raise their aspirations as to all that is possible in life - as my scholarship did for me. Let us go forward with gratitude and generosity!
