Hong Kong’s Heroes

“Right now more people are dying from Covid in Hong Kong, relative to population, than anywhere else in the world.”

Bloomberg Businessweek. March 23, 2022

The fifth wave of Covid-19 is at a critical point in Hong Kong. Huge numbers of our elderly population have fallen victim to the epidemic, hospitals are overwhelmed and many of our poor are struggling to survive. On the streets there is a palpable sense of fear of the virus, with many worrying if they, or their loved ones could be next.

It is under this dark cloud of fear that I have witnessed continual acts of selflessness and bravery from our front line staff. Our service centres have been inundated with clients who are in dire need of basic necessities. They also need medicines and rapid test kits for their families. And rather than succumb to the temptation of separating themselves from the public, Christian Action’s front line staff are actually doing more than ever!

The situation on the ground is grim, but our front line workers are bringing relief and comfort. CFR teams are out delivering Covid-Care kits and food to refugees. Our MDW staff are helping foreign domestic helpers to stay safe in shelters and our Mongkok Food Centre, Choi Wan, Long Ping, Sheung Shui and On Tai Service Centre’s staff are also busy distributing Covid-Care kits to the nearby residents to ensure that everybody is taken care of.

All of this is being done by incredibly brave frontline heroes because of the prayers and support of donors like you. Please click here to help us to continue putting emergency supplies in the hands of Hong Kong’s most needy.

Thank you.
