Thank you Christian Action!

One of the world’s leading COVID hot spots is Hong Kong. Because of the generous support from readers like you I am honored to introduce you to some of Hong Kong’s most vulnerable residents whom we have been able to supply with Emergency COVID-19 Relief Packs.

Mong Kok Service Centre

Mr. Chan is a casual decorator. Since the outbreak of the fifth wave he has only managed 5 days of work in total within these two months and his income has now dwindled to HK$5,000. He is doing his utmost to care for his infirmed father, his pregnant wife and 3-year-old son but the pressure is enormous.

"I was so stressed-out and worried that my pregnant wife might catch COVID, so I bought a few hundred dollars’ worth of preventive medicine but I could not afford any rapid test kits. When I opened the ‘Emergency COVID-19 Relief Pack’ from Christian Action I was so relieved, especially when I saw the rapid test kits that my wife could use safely at home for reassurance”

- Mr Chan, on receiving his Emergency COVID-19 Relief Pack from Dada Tam, from our centre.

Choi Wan Headquarters

Ms. Ng is a delightful 83-year-old who has been receiving hot meals from our ‘Blessing Meal Programme’ for many years. When the fifth wave of the pandemic hit Ms Ng self-quarantined at home and stopped visiting our center. Unfortunately, she still contracted COVID.

Fortunately for her Ms Ng’s son lives with her and cares for her. His income is very low however, and he can’t afford to buy anti-epidemic items.

We learned Ms Ng’s predicament when our Choi Wan staff member, Nicole Cheung, reached out to her. She immediately supplied Ms Ng with a much needed ‘Emergency COVID-19 Relief Pack’, for which both Ms. Ng and her son were immensely grateful!

Migrant Domestic Workers

Sharmathi, a Sri Lanka domestic worker, tested positive for Covid-19 on 16th February 2022. She wants to give a big “Thank you” to Tania, our staff member at MDW Service Centre, and charity partners, for all the encouragement and support that she received on her road to recovery.

“One day before my departure to Indonesia I tested positive for Omicron. I was so worried because my visa would expire. Tania, from Christian Action, took me to the Immigration Department, helped me to extend my visa without having to pay the extension fee then helped me with accommodation, food, vitamins, clothes, and provided me with transportation costs to go to the Immigration Department. I am so grateful!”

- Ameliani, an Indonesian domestic worker.

Centre for Refugees’ (CFR)

Alan (not his real name) is a refugee who was lucky to escape his country and make it to Hong Kong. He lives alone in Tai Po and doesn’t have a support network of relatives or friends. When he was struck with COVID his situation quickly became desperate.

Alan turned to our CFR social worker Jeffrey Andrews via WhatsApp on a Sunday. He explained how utterly alone and desperate he was now that he was struck with COVID and Jeffrey immediately contacted one of our wonderful volunteers who lives in Tai Po. The volunteer kindly collected food and a COVID relief pack from our CFR and delivered it to Alan!

All of these stories, and many more that have not been told, are real. We can purchase and deliver real help, like Emergency COVID-19 Relief Packs through the generosity of supporters like you. Please give by clicking here.

Thank you!
