Hope Today, Empower Now, Impact Tomorrow. Whoever. Whenever. Wherever.

Did you know that the United Nations designated June 20th as World Refugee Day? Our Centre for Refugees has been honouring refugees around the globe with a variety of fabulous live performances and crafts!
Hong Kong’s refugees and asylum seekers suffered tremendously during the fifth wave of COVID. Many families were isolated, confused, lonely and lacked food. In response our Centre for Refugees staff helped sustain the refugees with mental health visits, information, food and other vital supplies.
With the worst chapter of the fifth wave of COVID now behind us we celebrated World Refugee Day by throwing a party!
The party showcased the enormous pool of talent in the refugee community. It included the performing arts, with a drama that depicted refugees fleeing their homeland, their arrival here and the ‘limbo’ status they find themselves in. The central message was hope! We believe that their waiting should be filled with activities that grow their skill sets and self-worth and help them to be even more productive members of society.
The party also included African drumming, a fashion show, and a children’s variety show! Our outreach staff shared some of their reflections on working with refugees and how the public could engage with refugees. Pop-up stores sold crochet, knitting, jewelry, paper and basket crafts and leather-ware made by the refugees. Proceeds from pop-up stores will be used in Ladies’ classes.
Our goal was to raise both awareness about the plight of refugees and donations for refugee services and our refugee children’s higher education grants fund! The celebration was a great success! Please support our efforts with your donation here.
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2
