‘Vaya con Dios’
“When I first came to work at Xining Rehabilitation Centre, there were 30 children, three classes and six very inexperienced teachers. Some of them had no teaching qualifications at all. Undaunted, I coached them to work with children who have mild to severe special education needs. Five years later there were 80 children, 9 classes and sixteen teachers who were capable of continuing the work that I started. Caring for these children was hard work, but the teachers were very receptive, they loved the children and it was wonderful to see the progress they made day by day.” - Cindy Pearson
Cindy Pearson is a remarkable individual and a wonderful friend. She is particularly passionate about the needs of disabled children. In 2007, when the Xining Rehabilitation Centre (XRC) was in its infancy, Cindy joined the team and leveraged her 16 years of experience as a special needs educator in the US to develop XRC’s program. In many respects Cindy is the ‘mother’ of our rehabilitation program for severely disabled children in Qinghai Province!
At that time the government employed care-givers who had no education or experience in caring for disabled children. With patience, tenderness, love and determination Cindy moulded the care-givers into a skilled and knowledgeable team; and as a result of their work, the children have learned vital self-care skills such as feeding themselves and using the bathroom on their own.
In 2012, Cindy returned to the US on a sabbatical and during that break she moved on to another ministry. Our friendship remains strong and she is always helping out in any way she can. Just last year for example, she spoke words of encouragement and prayed for us during our Thanksgiving Celebration Dinner event! What a blessing!
During her sabbatical, Cindy attended Charis Bible College, which took her to Hong Kong, where she became the Director of Charis Bible College, which is an extension of Andrew Wommack Ministries. For the past seven years, she has been directing the ministry in Hong Kong. Her gift and talents are now needed in Singapore however, as she’ll work to expand the ministry, to make in-roads to Asia and establish foundations that will have a generational impact for the Gospel.
I will miss her very much, and I want to give my sincere thanks to Cindy, who always leaves a trail of hugs, kisses, happy giggles and kind words to our children in her wake.
May the Lord bless her amazingly for her faithfulness and generous sowing into the lives of many. May you reap a harvest of joy in your next adventure with Him.
