Something Unusual Happened!

Something unusual happened on Wednesday, July 27th. All over Kowloon there were children and adults with rolls of stickers and donation bags and they were greeting the public with a cheerful “Good morning! Can you buy a flag from me please?”

What made the event unusual is that the adults and children were all Christian Action volunteers and it was the first time we were allowed to hold a fundraising ‘Flag Day’ since COVID struck two years ago!

Flag Day 2022 was also unique because of how inclusive it was. Our volunteers included individuals and families who currently use our services, Christian Action staff and volunteers from our refugee and migrant domestic workers centres, sponsors, charity partners, donors and representatives from corporations all working together!

The feedback from volunteers has been tremendous. Service users spoke of the level of dignity that participation affords them, and parents who involved their children said that it was an excellent confidence building exercise. Glowing reports were also received from corporate representatives:

The company has always been active in community activities and volunteering to serve the public. Christian Action is one of our charity work partners. When we learned about a flag-selling activity, we immediately wanted to do our bit to raise funds to help the grassroots. On that day, 6 of us from Edrington joined in the Flag Day selling event. The weather was very hot, but it did not deter us from approaching the passers-by diligently. It was a rewarding experience.”
