Christian Action’s 38th Anniversary Volunteer Awards
Last week, on February 7th we hosted a unique, first-ever event at our headquarters building to honour all the volunteers who have served so selflessly over the past 38 years.
The 38th Anniversary Volunteer Awards Ceremony also sought to educate our youth about volunteerism, the opportunities for engagement, and how our community’s needs can be ameliorated in the process.
Mr. Vincent Lam, our Board Member and I welcomed everybody to the event, which was attended by over 100 participants. We were also honoured to have in attendance the Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak Mei Kuen, SBS, JP; Dr. Ngan Man Yu, Legislative Council member; Mr. Steve Wong Chi Wah, JP, District Officer of Wong Tai Sin; Mr. Andy Lam Siu Hong, JP, District Officer of Kwun Tong; & Mrs. Clara Lai-Chan Wai Fan, Chief Manager of Wong Tai Sin, Tsing Yi and Tsuen Wan Regions of the Housing Department!
Attendees listened to a rousing message from Miss Alice Mak, after which more than 70 outstanding volunteers from different sectors were honoured. These included:
- Our corporate partners such as Hong Kong Land, Sanofi Hong Kong Limited, and Sino Estates Management Limited.
- The sixty House Captains from CIIF's "Flying Over Self-Reliance and Mutual Help—House Captain for the On Tai Project" for their love and service in distributing emergency supplies and messages of encouragement to the elderly living alone, especially during the height of the pandemic. Read my blog from earlier this month to know more.
- The many volunteers who supported our children and families services, employment services, the Child Development Fund Programme, and services for ethnic minorities, refugees, and migrant workers.
In conclusion, the needs of our community are numerous, but the opportunity to make all of our lives richer, as these volunteers have demonstrated, is even greater! Let us all take even more action throughout 2023!
